AT&T Laboratories Cambridge
AT&T Laboratories Cambridge was founded in 1987 as the Olivetti Research Laboratory, better known as ORL. In 1997 a joint funding arrangement with Oracle was agreed and the lab became the Olivetti & Oracle Research Lab for two years until, in January 1999 it was acquired by AT&T
In early 2002, AT&T announced that, as part of their global research cuts, they would no longer be funding the Cambridge lab, and it will therefore cease operation on 24 April 2002.
This site is intended for those who wish to know more about the lab's projects, some of which became quite famous, and what happened to the people who created them.
John Naughton wrote an article in the Observer mourning the lab's passing.
